Love vs. Fear

Love vs. Fear

The fundamental dichotomy in life is not good and bad or good and evil. It is love and fear. Everything related to humans on earth can be traced back to these two fundamental energies. We either think and act with love as our motivating force or we do so from a place of fear. Other than involuntary actions such as breathing everything else we perceive is through one lens or the other. Every action we take is an expression of one or the other.

The source of all love in the universe is God. We do not “love” people, places or things. We either express love in the presence of certain external factors or we do not. But the source of that love is always the same. God.

So this means that in the web of life we are either expressing the divine part of ourselves or something else. That something else is fear, and the source of that fear is a part of our mental computer that we commonly call mind or ego. Ego serves a purpose, to protect us from physical danger. However, in most adults the ego has taken over the sense of self. As we grow up we are conditioned by modern society to fear certain people, situations or things.

So when we talk about spiritual growth, it is not enough to seek God in our lives. We must also recognize how the ego, which is the opposite of God in a sense, in its desire to protect, also shields us from God.

God is always there, always present for us. But we are not always present for God. This is the essence of free will and the illusion of duality present on earth. God gives us the opportunity to experience an illusion of separation so that we may experience the joy of recovering our true selves and returning “home” so to speak.

This home has many names, the Kingdom of Heaven, Salvation, Enlightenment, Illumination, Christ Consciousness, Buddha Consciousness, Krishna Consciousness. But these are just labels for the same thing: a state of consciousness where we have overcome the self, the mind, to become an expression of our divine being.

So knowing this, how is this useful to you and me at this moment?

Well, I can pretty much guess that all of us are desiring to improve our life conditions in some way, otherwise we wouldn’t be here? Raise their hand whomever isn’t desiring more peace, joy, prosperity or health in their life. Of course, this is a goal we all share. In some cases it may be more specific, maybe we’re desiring a child, a partner, a new job, more money or something else.

When we seek to grow spiritually it’s because there is a drive within us, something deep inside that knows that there is more to life than we’re currently experiencing. Some of us believe this quite fervently and dedicate a lot of time and energy to this seeking, while in others this desire is more muted. There is no right answer for everyone because we are all in different phases of life, with different needs, different goals and ambitions.
