Why do you resist God?
Published March 20, 2024

Today I felt guided to ask why I have been resisting God. As I sit down to write, a song called "How long do I have to wait for you" comes on. One of those little synchronicities that God uses to remind me that he's always here with me. I have been experiencing spasms during meditation for the last few months without really understanding why. But after doing some investigation I came to the realization that within my memory body (also known as the etheric body) there has been such an accumulation of experience of separation from God that at an energetic level I have been rejecting the light of God. Quite literally, that which I have been seeking feels foreign to various parts of my being.
If any of this resonates with you, perhaps ask this same question, how am I unconsciously sustaining separation / duality? This is not an exercise of the mind, it is more energetic in nature. We all can recognize the many ways our ego avoids the divine in order to maintain control.
Of course, the real question, the intelligent question is, how can I become more open to God? The first step is simply to ask for assistance: "God, help me to open all the doors to you, I no longer wish to experience separation, I choose to experience oneness." This is a call or a prayer that can be made daily.
You may wish to be more specific, focusing on the many ways we tend to resist God, for example: "Father, help me to surrender, help me to let go of my resistance to your will, help me to let go of my ego desire to control my life experience."
Whatever comes to mind is correct. Your resistance may be due to unconscious religious loyalties, family loyalties, anger about the past, times you felt that God had abandoned you, times that you felt unworthy of God, times that you chose to avoid the truth to protect your self image, etc.
Remember that God is never judgemental or punishing, any difficulties in connecting with God are our doing, part of the gift of free will that allows us to experience the illusion of separation. As the title of the song, God will wait for us until the end of time as he knows that we will always return sooner or later. And like the parable of the prodigal son, God's celebration of our return is as inevitable as the sun rising tomorrow.
