The sentence that finds what's actually in your way

So people tell me this all the time: "I don't know why I can't get past this." They've thought about it for years. They've journaled about it. They still don't know.
Here's a way I think about it. The answer isn't missing. It's just not available to the conscious part of you that thinks in full sentences and defends itself. Ask a question fast enough, and that part can't build a story first.
Try this. Pick something you want but keep not getting. More money. A certain relationship. A healthier body. Finish this sentence out loud or on paper, as fast as you can, without editing: "I want X but I am choosing to not experience X because..."
Don't think about it first. Don't make it sound reasonable. Finish it quickly, several times in a row. Write down whatever comes, even if it sounds ridiculous or embarrassing. "Because then I'd have to deal with my family's reaction." "Because I don't actually trust myself with it." "Because some part of me doesn't think I deserve it yet."
The first answer or two is your unconscious mind speaking - typically giving you the real reason you're not getting what you want. Just stay with the response and feel it for a second before you do anything else.
This isn't about blaming yourself for being stuck. It's information, not guilt, and a starting point worth sitting with, not a verdict. Once you've actually felt it, you have something real to work with instead of a wall with no door.
So pick the thing. Finish the sentence. Receive the answer, and when something real hits home, stay with it before you move on.
